GEJ BAGGS US MARTIN LUTHER KING HUMANITARIAN AWARD

Former President Goodluck Jonathan was
awarded in the US on Thursday for his
leadership in human rights in Africa’s most
populous nation, Nigeria.
Jonathan, who was awarded in recognition of his leadership in
“human rights, social justice and universal fight for freedom”,
becomes the first African leader to be so honoured.
The presidential award was presented by the Southern Christian
Leadership Conference, founded by the late American human rights
activist, Martin Luther King Jr, best known for his human rights
struggles and the I-have-a-dream speech.
In statement on Friday, the former president expressed his pleasure
in being so honoured and also meeting the sister of the famous
human rights activist.
“I thank Dr. Charles Steele Jr, President of the Southern Christian
Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, and the executive of the
SCLC for honoring me today,” he said.
“It was also a pleasure to meet Naomi King, the sister of the late
American Civil Rights leader and founder of the SCLC, Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr, who was kind enough to attend the event and
identify with the goals and aspirations of the Goodluck Jonathan
Foundation.
“By this award, I am further inspired to continue to work for the
advancement of democracy, peace and progress in Nigeria and
Africa.”
Jonathan is billed to be in the US for the 2016 Hope Global
Forums conference, where he is expected to Succeed the
42nd president of the US, Bill Clinton as
keynote speaker.
In the letter sent to Jonathan in December 2015, he was invited to
join the biggest 500 companies in the world in their promotion
of King’s human right ideals.
“We invite you to join Fortune 500 CEO’s, private investors,
financial leaders and government officials to connect and collaborate
on this vision,” the letter had read.
“With the theme ‘Reimagining the Global Economy: Inclusive
Economics’, the annual meeting is set against the backdrop of the
Martin Luther King Holiday weekend and gathers leaders from
government, community and the private sector to outline a vision for
the modern global economy.”
Jonathan was earlier in Florida to welcome his second grandchild,
delivered by his adopted daughter, Inebharapu Paul.

JAMB EXTENDS REGISTRATION DATE

The closing date for the registration of the Unified Tertiary
Matriculation Examination (UTME) as announced by JAMB, has
been extended till 31st January.
We therefore wish to advise all Myschoolers who are yet to
purchase their 2016 UTME forms to do so on or before January
31st, 2016.
This also extends to candidates who are still waiting for
supplementary or additional list of their choice schools for the
2015/2016 admission year to be released.
It is always a bad idea to have all your eggs in one basket. There
is no 100% guarantee that your name will appear on the list even
if the school eventually releases it.
To be on a safe side, get the JAMB form before it expires. That
way, even if you miss the 2015/2016 admission, you will still
stand a chance in the 2016/2017 session.
Also remember the examination is expected to commence February
29th 2016 (all things being equal).

Good luck

LOOTERS CAPTURED BY 'MAN O WAR' In FUTO

**Regular FUTO burglars finally caught **

A wonderful discovery was made yesterday. All the while the students had been enjoying their school break, little did they know their properties were being looted. A gang of '12' have been breaking into shops at FUTO market and the Catholic Church, STACC throughout the just concluded holidays.

The gang we believe have been looting shops at FUTO market by using acids to melt the padlocks and sometimes breaking in through the roofs especially at STACC. The gang had been evading security teams for a while but their robbery spree came to an end yesterday at exactly 1am. According to the information we received, the school Man 'O War got an intelligence regarding their whereabouts that morning where they were eventually apprehended and handed over to the school security.

The Man O' War recovered items like phones, GoTV decoders, loads of provisional items, chairs, tables, bottles of acids and most shockingly, the holy communion table at STACC. What they were doing with that is still unknown to us.
Unfortunately, the Man O' War told FUTO SIREN that those who kept some of their properties at STACC against the holidays might have some of their items stolen and should check with them if they feel they lost anything as they believed they recovered some of these items.

Another info of interest was that a 13-year old girl was a member of this 12-man gang. She was believed to be the informant of the group and guised as a regular shopkeeper at FUTO market.

The 12 suspects were paraded around the school by the School Man O' War at around 9am yesterday before being handed over to the school security officials who finally put them in the hands of the police.

• Above is the uncompleted building where they were apprehended yesterday (behind physics department). Their pictures would not be disclosed for the purpose of discretion.
